Community Guidelines
GymGuide is a place for gyms, trainers and members to share training, cheer each other on and find a good place to work out. These rules keep it that way.
The short version
Be kind
Cheer people on. Disagree with ideas, never attack the person — or their body.
Keep it safe
Nothing sexual. Nothing that puts a young person at risk. No personal details.
Keep it real
Share your experience, not medical advice, miracle results or steroids.
No selling in disguise
Businesses post offers openly, and every one is reviewed first.
Teens are protected
Members 15–17 get private profiles and extra safeguards by default.
Speak up
Report anything that breaks these rules. Block anyone, any time.
Who can join
You need to be 15 or older. We ask for your birth month and year when you join, and you can't change it later without contacting support. If you're under 15, please don't join yet — we'll be glad to see you when you're older. Giving a false age breaks our Terms of Use.
One profile per person. There are no private messages on GymGuide — conversations happen in the open, in comments.
Members under 18
If you're 15 to 17, these protections switch on automatically. You don't have to set anything up:
- Private by default. Your profile starts private and can be followers-only or private, never public. Adults can't find you in search.
- You choose who follows you. When an adult follows you, it's a request you can accept or ignore.
- You choose who comments. An adult can only comment on your posts, or reply to your comments, if you follow them.
- No location. Your home gym and city are never shown.
- A person checks your photos (and your profile picture) before anyone sees them.
- No business posting. You can't post promotions or post on behalf of a gym or trainer.
- Extra care with details. Posts with a phone number or email are refused, and links are checked by a person first.
More on this on our safety page — including a section for parents.
Respect people
- No harassment, bullying, threats or piling on.
- No hate: nothing that attacks people for their race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or body.
- No body shaming. Every body here is a work in progress, including yours.
- Don't pretend to be someone else — another member, a coach, a celebrity or a business.
Fine
- "I'd brace harder on that last rep — want a cue that helped me?"
- "Not a fan of high-rep deadlifts, here's why…"
- "Huge PR, congrats!"
Not okay
- "That form is embarrassing, maybe quit."
- Comments about someone's weight, shape or looks they didn't ask for
- Making an account that copies a real trainer's name and photo
Keep it safe
- No sexual content or nudity, and nothing sexual involving anyone under 18 — ever. We report child sexual exploitation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
- Never share personal information about a minor — their name, school, location or photos — without their parent's permission.
- Don't share anyone's phone number, email or address, including your own, in a public post.
- Don't ask people to move to other apps or private chats.
- No content that encourages self-harm or eating disorders. If you're struggling, please reach out — in the US you can call or text 988.
- No promoting or selling steroids, SARMs or other performance-enhancing drugs.
Fine
- "Cutting for my meet — eating 2,200 and keeping protein high."
- Asking how others handle gym anxiety
- A gym posting its own phone number on its page
Not okay
- "Stop eating after 2pm and you'll drop it fast."
- "DM me on Snap for my cycle."
- Posting a teammate's school or address
Be honest
- No medical claims. Don't say a workout, product or service cures, treats or heals anything. Share your experience, not a diagnosis.
- No spam, scams, fake giveaways, follow-for-follow or get-rich-quick schemes.
- New accounts can't post links in their first week. After that, links to unfamiliar sites are checked before they go live.
Fine
- "Hip flexor stretches helped my squat depth — check with a physio if it hurts."
- A link to your own Strava or YouTube
Not okay
- "This routine cured my back pain, skip the doctor."
- "Follow 4 follow, link in bio"
- Shortened links (bit.ly and friends)
Promotions (gyms and trainers)
Gyms and trainers with an approved listing can post offers from their page. A person reviews every promotion before it goes live. It must:
- Be a real offer you will honor, with an end date and any important terms.
- Avoid weight-loss promises, health or medical claims, and "guaranteed results".
- Not advertise supplements, fat burners or diet products.
- Not use before-and-after photos.
- Not claim to be the cheapest or "#1" unless you can prove it.
Fine
- "First month free for new members — 12-month agreement after, ends Nov 30."
- "Free intro class every Saturday in October."
Not okay
- "Lose 10 lbs in 2 weeks, guaranteed!"
- "Our fat-burner stack + bootcamp"
- "#1 gym in the city"
Photos and before/after
Share photos you took or are in, and only with the OK of anyone else who's recognisable. Adults may share their own before-and-after photos on personal posts — mark them as before/after when you post. They must be of you, must not be sexual, and can't be used in promotions or business posts. Members under 18 can't post them.
Report and block
- 1
Report
Tap Report on any post, comment or profile and pick what's wrong. Reports are confidential — nobody is told who reported them.
- 2
We look
When several members report the same thing, or anyone says a child may be at risk, it's hidden while a moderator reviews it.
- 3
Block
Block anyone from their profile. You won't see each other's posts or comments, any follows between you end, and they aren't told.
If someone is in danger, call 911 first. For anything urgent you can also email hello@gymguide.ai with “Safety” in the subject.
What happens when rules are broken
Posts are checked automatically before they appear, and anything we're unsure about waits for a person. What happens next depends on how serious it is:
- 1
The post or comment is removed and you're told which rule it broke.
- 2
A warning or strike on your account. Strikes add up.
- 3
A suspension — you can read but not post, comment or react, usually for 1 to 30 days.
- 4
Your community account is closed for repeated or serious breaks.
Anything that puts a child at risk, real threats of violence, or illegal content can lead straight to closure, and we report it to the authorities.
Think we got it wrong? Contact us and a person will look again.
